He  is a chair professor of civil engineering at Oklahoma State University (OSU), USA and Southwest Jiaotong University, China. He has degrees from Southwest and Beijing Jiaotong Universities, and Arizona State University (ASU).Technologies by Dr. Wang on automated pavement distress surveys are used in the US, China, South Africa, and Brazil. He received the 2011 Masters Award and the 2018 Turner Award by ASCE. He is the co-editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Rail Transportation.
